DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Connor Zilisch, visibly emotional, shared a touching moment before announcing his move up to the NASCAR Cup Series for 2026. The announcement, although expected, marked an important milestone for the 19-year-old driver, who has garnered seven victories in NASCAR’s Xfinity series.

A Promising Future at Trackhouse Racing

Justin Marks, owner of Trackhouse Racing, confirmed that Zilisch has signed a multi-year contract to compete full-time with the team starting next year. Zilisch will take over from Daniel Suarez in a Chevrolet with no number yet and will join Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen in Marks’ three-car team.

I never thought I would get anywhere in racing. My parents have supported me from day one, in every moment, in the good and the bad.

Connor Zilisch
Zilisch shared the difficulties and commitment involved in pursuing his dream in motorsports, recalling the moments when he doubted his decision to leave school and his friends. The driver competed in karts from childhood, including a stage in Europe at age 11. He turned professional in 2021.

Zilisch’s Career and Achievements

Since then, Zilisch has demonstrated his talent in every series in which he has participated. In the last two years, he has won the Rolex 24 and the 12 Hours of Sebring, as well as five ARCA races, two poles in the NASCAR Truck Series, and a victory in a CARS Tour late model race. As a Trackhouse development driver for two years, Zilisch has proven himself ready for NASCAR’s top level, achieving numerous victories with JR Motorsports and currently leading the Xfinity series standings. With eight wins in 27 Xfinity starts, Zilisch has amassed 12 consecutive top-five finishes, including a win at Daytona. Zilisch competed at Daytona less than two weeks after suffering a fractured clavicle in an accident in the victory zone, demonstrating his determination by returning to the track.

Connor is a rare talent that appears every few decades.

Justin Marks
Marks highlighted Zilisch’s maturity and potential, mentioning his mentorship from Josh Wise and Dr. Eric Warren of General Motors. In the coming weeks, Zilisch’s car number, the sponsor, the team principal, and the crew lineup will be announced.
