Concord, N.C. – Shane van Gisbergen continues his dominance on street and road courses, securing his fifth consecutive victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In a race full of tension, the current NASCAR Cup champion, Joey Logano, managed to advance to the third round of the playoffs, in a definition that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

Logano Secures His Spot in a Thrilling Race

Logano was involved in an intense battle with Ross Chastain, who was below the cut line and at risk of being eliminated. The situation became even more complicated at the Charlotte hybrid circuit, where Logano did not achieve a performance strong enough to secure his place.Chastain seemed to have Logano on the ropes, until a crash on the last lap with Denny Hamlin changed the course of the race. Chastain, after the incident, crossed the finish line in 21st position, just behind Logano, who managed to advance.

I didn’t know anything at all in that last race, I wasn’t very good. I saw (Chastain) and I didn’t know anything that was going on. I didn’t know. I thought I was running for 18th place. I wish I had known so I could have been prepared or made a different decision.

Denny Hamlin
Hamlin, visibly annoyed, complained to his team about the lack of information, regretting not having been aware of the situation to be able to make strategic decisions. The competition reduced the group of drivers from twelve to eight. Logano’s classification was never really in doubt, and attention focused on the possibility that a driver below the cut line, only if van Gisbergen was stopped, could advance.Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell posed significant challenges for van Gisbergen, but the New Zealand driver prevailed after an intense battle, securing the victory and eliminating the hopes of Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, and Austin Cindric to advance.Chastain, from Trackhouse Racing, stayed in the fight, although Logano failed to optimize his Ford to secure his place in the playoffs.

Everyone told me how close it was going to be. We’re still in it. We’re still alive, honey. I knew we were one point and I knew we were going to be tied at the end and Ross was going to do whatever it took to make it happen.

Joey Logano
Logano, celebrating amidst the boos of the fans, highlighted the excitement of the playoffs and the opportunity to continue competing.Chastain, for his part, lamented the mistakes made during the race, including speeding penalties that hindered his performance. The disappointment was palpable, especially because of the implications for his team.

Unforced errors, it’s terrible. It’s heartbreaking for nearly 200 Trackhouse employees. It’s not acceptable, simply unacceptable. Getting here and failing is a terrible feeling. I’ll wake up tomorrow and get back to work.

Ross Chastain
The eight drivers advancing to the third round of the playoffs are Ryan Blaney and Logano from Penske, Chase Elliott, Larson and William Byron from Hendrick Motorsports, Hamlin, Bell and Chase Briscoe from Joe Gibbs Racing.Chastain, Cindric, Reddick, and Wallace were eliminated, marking the end of the competition for the cars owned by Michael Jordan.
