Shane van Gisbergen Secures His Future with Trackhouse Racing

New Zealand driver Shane van Gisbergen has signed a multi-year contract extension with Trackhouse Racing, solidifying his position in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team announced this Friday that van Gisbergen will continue competing “for many years.” The specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Van Gisbergen, with notable victories in Mexico City, Chicago, and Sonoma Raceway, has already secured the fourth position in the 2025 playoffs, with three races remaining in the regular season.

I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home.

After a successful career in the Supercars series, where he won three championships, van Gisbergen was recruited by Trackhouse two years ago as part of the Project 91 program, designed to integrate international drivers into the main NASCAR series. In the historic Chicago Street Race of July 2023, van Gisbergen made history by being the first driver to win in his Cup debut since Johnny Rutherford in 1963. Last year, van Gisbergen participated in the Xfinity Series, achieving two victories with Kaulig Racing and qualifying for the playoffs. This year, he moved up to the Cup with Trackhouse, driving the No. 88 Chevrolet and became the foreign-born driver with the most wins in NASCAR history. In Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen International, van Gisbergen will look to join Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon as the only drivers with four consecutive wins on road or street courses.

We are witnessing one of the superstars of motorsports. What we ask him to do implies a high degree of difficulty. He has moved to the other side of the world, has learned a new way of racing and, at times, has dominated the competition. He is one of the greatest.

Ross Chastain, also a Chevrolet driver, and van Gisbergen are under contract for 2026. Trackhouse has not yet announced who will occupy the third car, following Daniel Suárez’s departure from the No. 99 Chevrolet at the end of the season. Connor Zilisch, points leader in the Xfinity Series with five wins for JR Motorsports, will make his fourth Cup appearance on Sunday for Trackhouse Racing and is considered a strong candidate to take over Suárez’s seat.
