3 Min Read

The driver Tyler Reddick faced a crucial weekend in the championship, with his hopes tested after his son’s medical condition was revealed. Reddick’s wife, Alexa, shared details about the health of her son, who was diagnosed with a chest tumor affecting his heart. The little one, born in May, has been dealing with serious health complications. Before Sunday’s race at The Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where Reddick started from the pole position, the pair shared an update. Shane van Gisbergen took the victory, eliminating Reddick from the playoffs, who finished in tenth position. Alexa Reddick, through social media, reported that her son has a tumor that “is ‘suffocating’ the renal vein and artery, telling the heart ‘Hey, I’m not getting enough blood… pump harder'”. This has caused an enlargement of the heart, and the 4-month-old baby will need to have a kidney removed because the doctors determined that it no longer works.

She will undergo open-heart surgery to remove her right kidney. We are not sure when.

Alexa also added that her son is happy playing and interacting with the medical staff. Reddick’s son’s health situation became public before the race at Kansas Speedway. Reddick commented on his son’s health in Charlotte, mentioning that although there are difficult times ahead, his son is improving. Reddick, who reached the championship final last year, was below the cut line for the drivers before Sunday’s race. The group was reduced from 12 to eight after the race. Reddick, along with teammate Bubba Wallace, Ross Chastain, and Austin Cindric, were eliminated. Reddick expressed that, given his situation in points, the most important thing for him is to give his best effort. Denny Hamlin, co-owner of Reddick’s car, commented that the company 23XI Racing has provided support and resources for the medical care of Reddick’s son. Hamlin added that they feel relieved to understand the way forward. Reddick thanked for the support received and reflected on the emotional impact on his family. Reddick and his wife decided that he would compete in Kansas, as their son’s condition was stable.
