In the midst of the championship battle and with his sights set on the race, Tyler Reddick faced a delicate personal situation. His son, Rookie, who is only four months old, was diagnosed with a tumor in his chest that affects his heart.

A Hard Blow

Alexa Reddick, Tyler’s wife, shared details about Rookie’s condition through social media. The little one has a tumor that is “choking” the renal vein and artery, which makes it difficult for blood to pump to the heart. This has caused an enlargement of the heart and will require the removal of a kidney that no longer functions. “She will undergo open surgery to remove her right kidney. We are not sure when,” Alexa wrote. “Waiting is okay at this point to give her heart a break while she is on blood pressure medication. They are hoping her heart will fully recover because it was just an innocent bystander. We have answers, but a journey ahead to bring our little Cookie home.” Despite the difficult situation, Alexa shared that Rookie is happy, playing and interacting with the medical staff. Reddick himself, who achieved pole position in the race, has expressed his gratitude for the support received and the emotional difficulty that this situation has generated in his family. He acknowledged that, although his son is showing improvement, there are still challenges to overcome. Regarding the race, Reddick, who is in a position where he needs a win to advance, has prioritized his son’s health. Denny Hamlin, co-owner of Reddick’s car, has assured that the 23XI Racing team has provided all the necessary support to the family. Reddick will start the race alongside Shane van Gisbergen, who is the favorite. Reddick, for his part, expressed gratitude for the support received and reflected on the emotional impact of this situation on his family. “Countless people have helped,” Reddick said. “Countless people have reached out, provided support whatever it may be. It’s been really eye-opening. I agree with my wife, this is the hardest thing I’ve had to go through… Certainly, being out (last week) wasn’t ideal.”
