NASCAR Will Not Implement Restrictions on Celebrations After Zilisch Accident
NASCAR has stated that it has no plans to restrict driver celebrations after the incident involving Connor Zilisch, an Xfinity series driver, who fell in Victory Lane and fractured his collarbone. Mike Forde, NASCAR’s communications director, addressed the issue on the “Hauler Talk” podcast, released on Wednesday. Forde stated that some precautions will be implemented in Victory Lane, but no new policies will be established. Zilisch had achieved his sixth victory of the season at Watkins Glen International on Saturday. During the celebration, he climbed onto the roof of his No. 88 Chevrolet, slipping and falling onto the asphalt. Apparently, his left foot got caught in the window net on the driver’s side. The 19-year-old driver was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a broken collarbone.Forde explained that NASCAR will not ban drivers from climbing on the door in Victory Lane.I am very grateful to be out of that, and I guess I didn’t walk out, but I am very grateful to be walking today and to be okay.

However, NASCAR will take new precautions to avoid the specific circumstances that led to Zilisch’s fall.We haven’t implemented any policies or best practices or anything like that.

I think that was part of the problem, that the window netting was waving on the outside. I think Connor even said that might have been a problem, and one of our security experts actually mentioned the same thing. So we might do a review to make sure that, if it’s inside the car, it’s one less thing you can slip on.
