Hamlin Seeks to Crown His Career in the NASCAR Final

Everything is set for Denny Hamlin, recognized as one of NASCAR’s best drivers, but still without a championship, to try to change that story in the season finale. Hamlin, in his twentieth full season, secured the pole position at Phoenix Raceway for the deciding race. The title will be contested by Hamlin, his teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing, Chase Briscoe, William Byron, and Kyle Larson, both from Hendrick Motorsports. Hamlin will lead the starting grid in the final race of a season where he achieved six victories, the most in the series. His triumph in Las Vegas last month was number 60 in his career, securing him a place in the final and giving him three weeks to prepare.

I think the advantage was winning in Las Vegas because I was able to get a lot of work done before this week. That way, this week isn’t as busy.

Hamlin has remained calm, taking the week like any other in Phoenix, but with more people. With a group of friends and family sharing three houses in the Phoenix area, Hamlin will seek to take advantage of the pole position, which gives him the first choice of pit position. Larson is the only driver in contention for the championship who already has a title, while Byron is seeking his third consecutive championship. Briscoe will make his debut in the title race, and Hamlin, three-time Daytona 500 winner, returns to the final for the first time since 2021. Byron and Larson finished second and third respectively, while Briscoe placed 12th.

I feel that, honestly, it was a very bad lap that I did. I was a little surprised to even be in 12th place to some extent.

Briscoe

This is at least the sixth time Hamlin has had the opportunity to win the championship, and so far he hasn’t succeeded. Hamlin has become the public’s favorite, and even his competitors recognize that a Hamlin championship would be well received.

Everyone likes a story like that, where someone is near the end of their career, all that, I can see why people would cheer for it.

Larson

I think it would be a shame, wouldn’t it?, if when he decides to hang it up, it were the best he’s ever won, wouldn’t it? I think everyone knows he’s more than capable.

Hamlin, after a change of team principal in the preseason, could now be led by Gayle, who could be the team principal who finally leads Hamlin to a title.

There are four really good cars, really good teams, really good team bosses. I just want to win the race and be the champion.

Gayle
Hamlin’s 60th victory tied him for 10th on the all-time wins list. Hamlin is seeking to win the championship because he wants his father, who has a serious health issue, to see it. Hamlin stated that he wants to win on Sunday because, “I know for sure that this is my last chance for my father to see it. I don’t want him to leave and never be able to see the moment.”
