Chase Elliott Leads the Grid at Dover After a Rain-Affected Day
The heavy rain at Dover Motor Speedway forced the cancellation of Saturday’s practice and qualifying, but Chase Elliott benefited from this situation to secure the pole position for Sunday’s race in the NASCAR Cup Series.
The iconic concrete mile track prepares for its first July race since 1969.
Elliott, with two wins and ten top-five finishes in his fourteen races at Dover, will look to add another victory to his record.
Chase Briscoe will be placed in the second position on the grid, followed by Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick, and William Byron.
Shane van Gisbergen, who triumphed last week at Sonoma Raceway, Michael McDowell, Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs, and Kyle Busch round out the top 10.
Joey Logano is about to become the youngest driver in NASCAR history to reach 600 races.
Logano, at 35 years, 1 month, and 26 days old, will surpass Richard Petty, a seven-time NASCAR champion and Hall of Famer, by six months when he reaches 600 races on Sunday at Dover Motor Speedway.
The mid-season tournament, which awards a $1 million prize to the winner, features head-to-head matchups between Ty Dillon and John Hunter Nemechek, and between Reddick and Gibbs in Dover.
The winners will face off next week in Indianapolis. Reddick is the favorite to win the tournament, according to the bets.
The four drivers haven’t won this season yet.
