Christopher Bell Wins at Bristol as Joe Gibbs Racing Dominates the First Round of Playoffs

In an exciting race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Christopher Bell, driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, secured the victory on Saturday, marking the perfect close to the first round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs for his team. Bell, starting from the fourth position, demonstrated great skill in ascending and taking the lead on the final restart. He led the last four laps of the 0.533-mile oval, ending a streak of 24 races without wins and obtaining his fourth triumph of the season.

It wasn’t easy in the end, but we did it. We know any week could be ours, and it hadn’t been for a long time. But Bristol, this is ours!

With this victory, Bell joins his teammates Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe, who also secured playoff wins. The first round culminated in a dominant performance by Joe Gibbs Racing. The race was full of action and drama, with a total of 14 yellow flags and 137 caution laps. The excessive wear on the right-side tires forced teams to make more pit stops, which added a crucial strategic element. The drama intensified when a fire in Austin Cindric’s car stopped the race, although he managed to secure a place in the second round. Brad Keselowski, seeking to break a 51-race winless streak, finished in second place, followed by Zane Smith, Ryan Blaney, and Joey Logano. The excitement of the playoffs continued with the elimination of Alex Bowman, Austin Dillon, Shane van Gisbergen, and Josh Berry, who failed to advance to the next phase of the championship. Josh Berry, who had an unfortunate start in the playoffs, expressed his disappointment after an incident that forced him to abandon the race. Ty Gibbs, despite leading the most laps, had issues on his final pit stop, which prevented him from fighting for the victory.

Next Steps in the Playoffs

The NASCAR Cup Series will continue with the playoffs in the second round on Sunday, September 21st at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. It will be the first race at this 1.058-mile oval since June 2024 and the first playoff race in Loudon, New Hampshire, since September 2017.
