North Carolina Fire: Investigations Reveal Tragic Details
GASTONIA, N.C. – A fire at a North Carolina residence, which resulted in the loss of life of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin’s father, and left his mother injured, has been classified as accidental, although the exact cause of the fire’s start remains undetermined.
The report issued by Gaston County Emergency Management & Fire Services indicates that the December 28th fire, which affected a two-story dwelling, originated in a room. However, the “cause of ignition” remains “undetermined”.
According to an email from Gaston County spokesperson Adam Gaub, the investigation concluded that the fire was accidental.
Hamlin’s parents, Dennis and Mary Lou Hamlin, were found outside the residence on the night of the fire with serious injuries, authorities reported. Dennis Hamlin, 75, later died, while his wife managed to survive.
The property, located near Stanley, about 32 kilometers northwest of Charlotte, belonged to a company that had Denny Hamlin as manager, according to government records.
Previously, it was reported that Dennis Hamlin was already seriously ill last year, according to statements from his son.
Denny Hamlin is a prominent driver in NASCAR’s premier category, with 60 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series, including three Daytona 500 victories. Hamlin, along with Michael Jordan, co-own the car driven by Tyler Reddick, winner of this year’s Daytona 500.
