Patricky Pitbull Rejects Fight with Losene Keita After Missing Weight

UFC featherweight fighter Patricio Pitbull has declined to face Losene Keita at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Paris, after Keita failed to make weight by three pounds on Friday. Pitbull, 38, did not hide his refusal to accept a weight agreement once Keita failed to make weight. The fight was scheduled on short notice, but Pitbull argued that his younger opponent should have had an easier time making weight than he did, given that Keita resides and trains in Europe, while Pitbull is based in Brazil.

“He said in an interview that he was faster, stronger, and younger,” commented Pitbull in a video posted on UFC Brazil. “I gave him all the advantages in addition to allowing this fight to take place here in Paris. He drove two hours to get here, so there was no suffering. His weight was low, he reached 165 pounds, just like me.”

Pitbull continued criticizing Keita’s preparation.

“I am absolutely sure he didn’t try [to cut weight]. At 9 in the morning, he weighed in, he was over, and instead of trying until 11 in the morning, which is the limit, he was eating porridge. Fuck you, man. If you want to blame someone, blame my opponent.”

Keita, 27, was going to debut in the UFC. He offered a public apology for not making weight on Friday. “For the first time in 25 fights, I didn’t make weight, and it had to happen in my UFC debut,” he wrote on X. “I wanted to continue and would have given everything to make weight, but my body didn’t want to. I sincerely apologize to my fans. I will return, as I do every time I fall in life.” Pitbull (37-8) is a former Bellator MMA champion. He signed with the UFC earlier this year and has already fought twice in 2024. He has requested the UFC to reschedule him on the UFC Fight Night card on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro.
