PFL Reveals Ambitious Plans for 2026: A Globalized MMA Calendar

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has unveiled its strategy for the year 2026, a plan that contemplates a significant expansion in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). The calendar will include a total of 24 events, distributed between global and regional competitions, marking a milestone in the league’s expansion. PFL plans to hold 16 global events, along with eight regional events, focusing on the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) and Africa series. This geographical diversification underlines PFL’s commitment to expand its reach and attract a global audience. The PFL’s first major event in 2026 will feature Usman Nurmagomedov defending his lightweight title. His opponent will be Alfie Davis, on a card scheduled for February 7th at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. In addition to Dubai, the initial PFL schedule includes events in March in Madrid and Pittsburgh, and in April in Chicago. The event in Madrid will represent the promotion’s first foray into Spain. The PFL, founded in 2017, has recently undergone significant changes in its leadership. In July, John Martin, former executive at Turner and Time Warner, was appointed CEO, and Lenny Daniels, former president of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, assumed the role of chief operating officer this week. Historically, the PFL had been structured around a regular season and a playoff format. However, in 2025, that format was modified in favor of a single-elimination tournament. Martin has decided to move away entirely from the tournament model, favoring a more traditional MMA matchmaking format. The PFL has a national broadcast agreement that expires at the end of 2026.
