Alex Pereira Focused on White House Event After Fracture

UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira revealed his plans after his recent victory and the injury suffered in the fight. Pereira, known for his power in the octagon, is focusing on a possible match at the UFC event at the White House, scheduled for June. Pereira (13-3) regained the 205-pound title by knocking out Magomed Ankalaev in just 80 seconds at UFC 320. This fight was a rematch of their March encounter, where Pereira lost the belt by decision. After the fight, Pereira was seen with an orthopedic boot on his left foot. In a public appearance in Rio de Janeiro, the fighter confirmed that he suffered a fracture in his left foot. Although the exact recovery time has not been defined, Pereira, 38, hopes to be back in about eight months, which would lead him to consider the event at the White House on June 14.

“I had an X-ray in Las Vegas and then an MRI [in Brazil]. It showed a fracture in my foot, but I still don’t know what will happen or how long the recovery will take. I think it’s good to focus on this fight [at the White House]. Now, that’s something that interests me,” Pereira commented.

Following his victory at UFC 320, Pereira was scheduled to challenge Jon Jones, but opted for a moment of silence in memory of Jones’ brother, Arthur Jones. Pereira and Jones have expressed interest in facing each other in the past. Jones, who retired from MMA earlier this year, has announced his return to participate in the White House event. For the moment, Pereira has not revealed a date for his return nor a specific opponent. Options for his next challenge include defending the title against contenders like Jiří Procházka and Carlos Ulberg, or moving up to heavyweight to face the winner of the fight between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane. Pereira has experienced bone fractures previously and has managed to recover in a timeframe similar to what would be needed to be ready for June.
