Moreno vs. Kavanagh: Stellar Clash at UFC Fight Night Mexico

Brandon Moreno has a new rival in Mexico City

Former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno already has a new opponent for the UFC Fight Night main event on February 28 in Mexico City. The change comes after the injury withdrawal of his original rival. Moreno (23-9-1) will face English prospect Lone’er Kavanagh (9-1) in a five-round fight that will take place at the Arena CDMX. Originally, the first Mexican-born champion in UFC history was going to fight Asu Almabayaev (23-3), who withdrew this week. Moreno, who conquered the UFC title in 2021 and 2022, seeks to recover from his defeat against Tatsuro Taira in December.

Although Almabayaev is currently ranked higher than Kavanagh in the flyweight division (No. 7), this could be a more appealing matchup for Moreno. Kavanagh, 26, is considered one of the top prospects at 125 pounds and has achieved four knockouts in his nine professional victories. Currently, Kavanagh, who trains in London, is ranked number 15 in the division.

Kavanagh was scheduled to compete on the March 14th card against Brazilian Bruno Silva (15-7-2). Silva will now face veteran Charles Johnson, who recently suffered a first-round knockout loss to Alex Perez on January 24th in Las Vegas.
