Conor McGregor Withdraws from Presidential Election in Ireland
The renowned mixed martial arts fighter, Conor McGregor, has decided to withdraw his candidacy for the presidential elections in Ireland. Furthermore, he has criticized the electoral process, calling it undemocratic. At 37 years old, the chances of McGregor appearing on the ballot in October were minimal. To achieve this, he needed the support of 20 members of parliament or four local authorities. Despite his efforts to obtain nominations, including the use of his large social media following and the backing of figures like Elon Musk, McGregor announced on Sunday that he would cease his efforts.Although McGregor remains a popular figure on social media, his position as a political figure in Ireland is questionable. In November, he was found liable in a sexual assault case that occurred in 2018. A recent poll revealed that only 7% of respondents would vote for him. McGregor (22-6) hasn’t competed in the UFC since suffering a broken leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. He has expressed interest in participating in a UFC event at the White House in the summer of 2026.“I want to assure the people of Ireland that this will not be my last election,” McGregor wrote on X. “You will see me campaigning again in the future, fighting for your rights and representing the best interests of our nation.”
