The UFC strawweight fighter, Iasmin Lucindo, was forced to withdraw from her scheduled fight next month due to an adverse result in a drug test. Her team is investigating the situation as a possible case of contaminated supplement. Lucindo, with a record of 18-6, was scheduled to face Gillian Robertson (16-8) at UFC Fight Night on December 13. However, she was withdrawn from the fight after testing positive for traces of the anabolic steroid mesterolone, according to her team. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has imposed a temporary suspension on the 23-year-old fighter while her team investigates the cause of the adverse result. Lucindo denies having knowingly ingested the prohibited substance.
According to Okamura, the positive result occurred at the end of September. Lucindo provided negative drug tests in August and October. In the event that the NSAC determines that the positive result was caused by a contaminated supplement, Lucindo could face a reduced suspension. There is a long history of contaminated supplement cases involving UFC athletes. Lucindo, from Brazil, is one of the most outstanding prospects in the 115-pound division. He is currently ranked number 7 in the UFC rankings and has a record of 5-2. Her last victory was against Angela Hill by decision in August.Iasmin has not knowingly used any prohibited substance and, based on the amount and type of metabolites detected, we firmly believe that this is a case of contamination and not intentional use. We are working diligently, in collaboration with Drug Free Sports and the UFC, to identify the source of this contamination.
Tiago Okamura, manager of Iasmin Lucindo
