Islam Makhachev Dominates: UFC Champion Moves Up to Welterweight, MMA Rankings Shaken

Attention, Alofoke Deportes fanatics! The welterweight rankings in the UFC have undergone a significant upheaval.

Makhachev Ascends to Welterweight Dominance

Islam Makhachev has made a colossal leap in the ESPN rankings. He went from number 1 in lightweight to… number 1 in welterweight! This change came after his dominant victory over Jack Della Maddalena on Saturday night, securing the welterweight championship. Makhachev’s rise is only part of the restructuring brought about by UFC 322 in the welterweight division. Michael Morales’ and Carlos Prates’ impressive knockout victories boosted their positions in the top 10.

Lightweight Changes and New Entries

Makhachev’s move to 170 pounds has also generated movement in the lightweight division, allowing several 155-pound competitors to move up. Ilia Topuria, the current UFC champion, now leads the division. In addition, Beneil Dariush’s knockout loss to Benoît Saint Denis at UFC 322 led to Saint Denis and Renato Moicano entering the rankings.

Update in the Women’s Rankings

Regarding the women’s rankings, Zhang Weili, after losing to Valentina Shevchenko in her attempt for the flyweight title, has not yet defined in which division she will compete. For the moment, she remains in the strawweight rankings, at number 1. Here are the MMA rankings from Alofoke Deportes and a list of the current UFC champions in all weight classes.
