Charles Oliveira vs. Mateusz Gamrot to Headline UFC Fight Night in Rio de Janeiro
UFC lightweight ex-champion Charles Oliveira will face Mateusz Gamrot in a highly anticipated event next month.
Oliveira (35-11) will face Gamrot (25-3) in the main event of UFC Fight Night on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro, officials announced on Tuesday. This will be Oliveira’s first appearance in Brazil since March 2020.
Originally, Oliveira was scheduled to face Rafael Fiziev, but Fiziev withdrew last week due to an injury.
The UFC considered several replacement opponents for Oliveira.
Gamrot, for his part, publicly requested to fight Oliveira on short notice. Gamrot has a 4-1 record in his last five appearances, with his only loss against ranked contender Dan Hooker in August 2024. Gamrot has notable wins over Rafael dos Anjos, Fiziev, and Arman Tsarukyan.
Oliveira seeks to recover from a knockout loss against Ilia Topuria in a fight for the vacant title in July.
UFC ranks Oliveira and Gamrot as numbers 4 and 8 in the organization’s lightweight rankings, respectively. The UFC Fight Night event will take place at Farmasi Arena.
