Former UFC Fighter Suman Mokhtarian Murdered in Sydney
In an event that has shocked the mixed martial arts (MMA) community, former UFC fighter and coach, Suman Mokhtarian, has been murdered in what the Australian police believe was a premeditated attack. Mokhtarian, 33, was found dead in Riverstone, Sydney, on Wednesday night, after being shot while walking. Emergency services responded to Annaluke Street, where they found Mokhtarian with gunshot wounds. Despite the paramedics’ efforts, he died at the scene. Mokhtarian competed in the UFC in 2018 and 2019, before turning to coaching. He played a key role in the development of several MMA talents at the Australian Top Team, alongside his brother Ashkan Mokhtarian. The police have established a crime scene and have initiated an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the shooting.Shortly after the incident, emergency services were called to Riverstone Road, near Clark Street, due to a vehicle fire. Police are investigating whether both incidents are related. A Mokhtarian student, Jesse Swain, paid tribute to his coach on social media. In his post, Swain expressed his sadness and gratitude towards Mokhtarian, highlighting his passion and his belief in his students. Mokhtarian had already been the target of an assassination attempt in February 2024, in front of the Australian Top Team gym in Wentworthville, Sydney.
