Maycee Barber Misses Weight for UFC Main Event
UFC flyweight contender Maycee Barber failed to make weight this Friday, ahead of her main event fight against Erin Blanchfield this weekend in Las Vegas.
Barber, with a record of 14-2, weighed in at 126.5 pounds, half a pound over the allowed limit. Despite this, the five-round flyweight bout, which headlines UFC Fight Night on Saturday at the Apex, will proceed. Barber will have to forfeit a percentage of her fight purse for this infraction. This is the first time Barber has missed weight in her UFC career. The 27-year-old fighter returns after a 14-month inactivity due to an injury.
This matchup is crucial in the UFC’s flyweight division. Blanchfield and Barber are ranked number 4 and 5 in the division, respectively.
The defending champion, Valentina Shevchenko, defended her title earlier this month with a unanimous decision victory over Manon Fiorot at UFC 315 in Montreal. The UFC has not yet announced her next title challenger.
