Yesavage Will Start Game 1 of the World Series for the Blue Jays
The Blue Jays have selected rookie Trey Yesavage to pitch in the first game of the World Series against the Dodgers, the current champions. However, it has not yet been decided whether Bo Bichette will be on the team roster, according to manager John Schneider. Bichette, who suffered a sprain in his left knee on September 6, has shown a remarkable recovery. The player, who was a two-time All-Star and finished second in batting in the regular season with a .311 average, has progressed significantly.Bichette practiced at second base and faced live pitches on Wednesday. Schneider indicated that a similar routine would follow on Thursday, “with a little more attention to detail from a defensive point of view.” Bichette, 27, is being considered for the shortstop, second base, or designated hitter positions, or even as a pinch hitter.I feel pretty good.

The decision of who would be the starting pitcher for Game 1 came down to Yesavage or Kevin Gausman. Ultimately, it was decided to give Gausman another day of rest after his performance in Game 7 of the ALCS. Gausman will start Game 2 in Toronto or Game 3 in Los Angeles. Shane Bieber and Max Scherzer are also expected as starters for the Blue Jays. The Dodgers will have Blake Snell as the starting pitcher, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto is scheduled for Game 2.We are reaching the limit with this. I could see all three things happening, to be honest. I just have to talk to him after today’s training, see how comfortable he felt doing everything and make the best decision.
John Schneider
Yesavage, 22, will make his seventh start of his career and it will be the first time the Blue Jays play in the World Series since 1993. He will be the first rookie to start Game 1 of the World Series since 2006. Yesavage debuted in the Major Leagues on September 15 and, despite the pressure, has proven his worth with his combination of splitter and fastball, baffling some of the best offenses in baseball. In his postseason debut, he struck out 11 batters without allowing any runs in Game 2 of the American League Division Series. Then, he limited the Mariners to two runs in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. We try to talk to all the guys and see how they are physically, see what we’ve done historically in terms of rest, how it might look later in the series for certain guys. And then, how each of them compares to the Dodgers.

Yesavage was selected in the first round of last year’s draft. He quickly ascended through the minor leagues, standing out as a key prospect for the Blue Jays. On Friday, Yesavage will take the mound in the franchise’s first World Series game in 32 years.I’ve been able to go through this and handle it in the most diligent way possible. Being my rookie season and having these high-pressure games, I try to treat it as if it’s not as high-pressure as it is mentally, but I know it’s there, so I think I’ve developed it over time.

It’s really special. I have guys from Dunedin to Vancouver, New Hampshire, Buffalo texting me, congratulating me. But it’s just a testament to how close everyone is throughout the organization, even in different parts of the country. This organization is very well run and everyone is incredible here.
