Miguel Vargas Leaves Game with Wrist Contusion

White Sox’s starting pitcher, Miguel Vargas, was forced to leave Thursday’s game against the New York Yankees due to a contusion on his left wrist.

The injury occurred in the fifth inning, three episodes after Vargas hit his first grand slam of his career.

Vargas suffered the blow while trying to stretch to catch a deflected throw from Curtis Mead, coming from third base, after a hit by Aaron Judge.

Apparently, Judge’s left leg impacted Vargas’s left hand (the one he uses for the glove) when he was running towards first base. Vargas fell to the ground, visibly affected by the pain.

In the play, Judge was awarded a single and advanced to second due to the wild pitch, which also allowed Ben Rice to score from first base, breaking a 4-4 tie.

The Yankees added another run in that inning, taking a 6-4 lead.

Vargas’s 14th home run had tied the game 4-4 in the second inning. He was replaced at first base by Mead.
