Significant Losses for the White Sox: González and Tauchman Out of Action

White Sox right-handed pitcher Wikelman González will not play again this season due to a right elbow injury. On the other hand, outfielder Mike Tauchman will also be out of action due to a meniscus tear in his right knee. Both players were placed on the injured list. González was placed on the 15-day list on Wednesday, while Tauchman was added to the 10-day list. Both moves were retroactive to Sunday.

“I don’t think there’s much long-term concern. I think he could pitch. We just want to protect him a bit,” manager Will Venable commented on González’s situation.

To cover absences, the White Sox claimed outfielder Derek Hill off waivers and called up right-handed pitcher Jonathan Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte. Hill was expected to arrive in New York on Wednesday. González, a 23-year-old right-handed pitcher, debuted in the Major Leagues on June 20. In 16 relief appearances, he had a 1-0 record with an ERA of 2.66, striking out 25 batters and issuing 12 walks in 20.1 innings. Tauchman, 34, batted .263 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs in 93 games.

“He really set the tone by going out there and grinding despite a lot of physical ailments and his body finally gave out,” Venable said about Tauchman.
