White Sox Bolster Bullpen: Acquire Reliever Miguel Castro from Astros

The Chicago White Sox bolster their pitching staff by acquiring right-hander Miguel Castro in a move from the Houston Astros, it was announced on Friday.

Along with Castro, infielder Vinny Capra also joins the team, both added to the roster prior to the start of the three-game series against the Chicago Cubs. Capra was claimed after being placed on waivers by Milwaukee on Thursday.

To make room on the roster, the White Sox made strategic decisions. Left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte, while infielder Jacob Amaya was designated for assignment.

In the transaction, the White Sox gave up international signing bonus money to the Astros in exchange for Castro, who had previously signed a minor league contract with Houston on December 29.

Castro, 30, had a standout season in Triple-A Sugar Land, recording a 3-0 record with five saves and a 2.29 ERA in 17 relief appearances.

The pitcher debuted in the Major Leagues with Toronto in 2015. Throughout his career, Castro has a record of 22-28 with an ERA of 4.20 in 419 games in the majors, having also played for Baltimore, Arizona, Colorado and both New York teams.
