Westburg Shines in Return as Oriols Beat the Braves
Jordan Westburg’s return to the Baltimore Orioles’ lineup was impactful, hitting a solo home run and accumulating three hits in the 3-2 victory over the Braves on Friday night.
Westburg, who hadn’t played since June 27 due to a left index finger injury, quickly proved his worth. After a single in the first inning, he broke the scoreless tie in the third with a home run to right field, his eighth of the season, against pitcher Spencer Strider (3-7).
Another player who returned from Baltimore’s injured list, Tyler O’Neill, also contributed with a single and a walk. O’Neill had been out since May 16 due to a left shoulder injury.
Cedric Mullins added a two-run homer for the Orioles. For his part, Charlie Morton allowed two runs in his return to Atlanta.
Morton (5-7) improved his record to 5-0 in 10 appearances, including seven starts, since May 10. He pitched five scoreless innings before giving up a two-run homer to Drake Baldwin in the sixth inning.
The Atlanta team, with offensive struggles, has a 2-6 record in its last eight games, with three shutout losses and only 18 runs scored in total.
Right-handed reliever Félix Bautista pitched a perfect ninth inning to secure his 17th save in 18 opportunities.
