Volpe, Yankees Shortstop, Hit by Pitch: Test Results Are Negative

NEW YORK – Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe exited Friday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox in the fourth inning due to a left elbow contusion, two innings after being hit by an 88.2 mph pitch from Walker Buehler.New York manager Aaron Boone reported that the X-rays and CT scan were negative.A little stiff and sore, but let’s hope it’s nothing that will keep him out for long.

Volpe, visibly affected by the pain, remained in the game after being hit by the pitch, which forced a run. The 24-year-old Gold Glove winner played in the field in the third inning, then was replaced by Oswald Peraza at the start of the fourth.

Volpe hit a two-run homer in the first inning, which produced five runs. He is batting .241 with eight home runs and 37 RBIs.

New York achieved a 9-6 victory.
