ANAHEIM, Calif. – Mike Trout, the star hitter for the Los Angeles Angels, is scheduled to resume running next week, as he progresses in his recovery from a bone bruise in his left knee.
The 33-year-old player confirmed on Saturday that he will not be back in the Angels’ lineup when he is eligible to come off the injured list on Sunday. Despite this, the three-time American League Most Valuable Player remains optimistic about his quick recovery.
Trout has been practicing with the bat in the cage for the third consecutive day and hopes to evaluate his knee with some running when the Angels travel to San Diego for a series that will begin next week, considering it “a good possibility”.
“It’s been great. I was worried at first, but the sharp pain I felt after that day in Seattle has disappeared.”

Trout hasn’t played since April 30, when he left the game against the Mariners due to knee pain, which was eventually diagnosed as a bone bruise. The player underwent two knee surgeries last year after suffering a meniscus tear.
After participating in the first 29 games of the Angels this season, Trout missed his ninth consecutive game on Saturday night, when Los Angeles hosted the Baltimore Orioles.
Since May 17, 2021, when he suffered a calf muscle tear that sidelined him for the rest of that season, Trout has missed 387 of the Angels’ 646 games, nearly 60%.
He missed five weeks of the 2022 season due to a back injury and half of the 2023 season after a pitch fractured his hand. Last season, he was only able to play 29 games, failing to stay healthy even in April.
Trout’s current injury doesn’t seem likely to end his season, and for a superstar whose career has been affected by five years of injuries, this represents a great relief.
“I don’t have a date (to return), but I feel great. I feel good. Talking with the doctors, it’s like it’s a kind of scab. We are adding exercises every day and (continuing) if I feel good… but (there is no) pain, so we will continue progressing like this.”
