ROCHESTER, N.Y. — New York Yankees prospect Spencer Jones showed off his power by hitting three home runs in his first three at-bats during Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s 10-8 loss to Rochester on Thursday.
Jones, whose name has echoed in rumors of possible trades, is 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 240 pounds. With these home runs, the left-handed batter established himself as the home run leader in the minor leagues, totaling 29.
The 24-year-old player, former Vanderbilt star, has accumulated 13 home runs in 19 games in the Triple-A category. The Yankees selected him in the 25th position in the 2022 draft.
Jones achieved his first three-home-run game, all connected against pitcher Bryce Conley, and in two-strike situations. In the first at-bat, Jones sent a changeup from Conley 401 feet towards left-center field. In the third inning, he started with a 425-foot hit to right field, and in the fifth, he added another 433-foot hit to center field.
In addition to his outstanding offensive performance, Jones made a sliding catch to end the fifth inning. In his two remaining at-bats, he struck out and then was out.
