Skip Schumaker Takes the Helm of the Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers have named Skip Schumaker as their new manager, securing a four-year contract with the former National League Manager of the Year. The announcement was made following an internal evaluation to replace Bruce Bochy. Schumaker, who served as a senior advisor to the Rangers since last November, was recognized as the National League Manager of the Year in 2023, following an outstanding season with Miami. The decision comes after Bochy, who led the Rangers to win the World Series, completed his three-year contract. The Rangers will seek to improve their performance after a season with an 81-81 record. Schumaker’s appointment was seen by many as a logical step, given his role as an advisor and his successful career as a manager.“Although I gained a good understanding of the organization through my role in the front office last season, conversations with Chris Young, and others this week have only intensified my interest in this opportunity. I can’t wait to start working for 2026.”

Before his time in Miami, Schumaker was a bench coach in St. Louis, where he was part of the World Series champion team in 2011. During his playing career, he was also with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati. Schumaker will take over a Rangers team that led the Major Leagues in effectiveness this season (3.47) and has a stellar pitching staff, including Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi and Jack Leiter. The Rangers also set a fielding percentage record (.99112). Despite these achievements, the Rangers will seek to improve their offense, as they ranked in the bottom of the league in batting average and runs scored. Bochy, for his part, has received an offer for an advisory position in the Rangers’ main office.“We are delighted to announce this promotion and to have Skip leading this club on the bench. During his last year as a senior advisor to our baseball operations group, Skip has proven to be driven, passionate, and thorough in everything he does. He has a winning spirit and energy, and we are fortunate that someone so respected in the industry has agreed to become our manager.”
