Clarke Schmidt to the Injured List with Forearm Discomfort
Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt was placed on the 15-day injured list due to right forearm discomfort. The news was announced this Friday, a day after his start in Toronto was cut short after only three innings. Schmidt, a 29-year-old right-handed pitcher, underwent an MRI on the same Friday. The Yankees also called up right-handed pitchers Scott Effross and Jayvien Sandridge from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Clayton Beeter, who replaced Schmidt on Thursday night and suffered the loss in the 8-5 defeat, was sent to the RailRiders. Schmidt allowed three runs, four hits, including a two-run homer by George Springer, and two walks. The pitcher revealed that he has been dealing with arm discomfort since his June 4 outing against Cleveland.Schmidt, who underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2017, has a 4-4 record with a 3.32 ERA in 14 starts. He abandoned a start on June 21 against Baltimore after throwing a career-high 103 pitches in seven no-hit innings, part of a 28 1/3-inning scoreless streak. At the beginning of the game it felt good. As the game went on, it got a little tight. I felt like all night I was protecting it a little bit on the breaking pitches, really not throwing them hard or trying to put a lot of power on them.

Every time you get an MRI on your forearm, or any part of your body, you don’t feel happy about it. I pray that everything is okay and mild. We’ll see what happens.
