Rich Hill Looks to Revive His Career with the Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals have signed veteran left-handed pitcher Rich Hill to a minor league contract. The experienced 45-year-old will seek a new opportunity in the Major Leagues, reporting to the team’s spring training facilities in Surprise, Arizona.

Once Hill reaches his best form, he is expected to be assigned to Triple-A Omaha. There, he will try to prove that he can still be a valuable asset to a team with postseason aspirations.

The Kansas City team, at the time of Tuesday night’s game in Houston, was tied for second place in the American League Central Division.

Hill debuted in the Major Leagues with the Cubs in 2005. Throughout a two-decade career, he has participated in 386 games, including 248 starts. His ERA is 4.01, with 1,428 strikeouts, having played for 13 different teams. If called by the Royals, it would be his 14th franchise, joining Edwin Jackson as the only players to have worn the jersey of so many teams.

Last season, Hill appeared in four games out of the bullpen with the Red Sox before being designated for assignment in September. His best season was in 2016, when he posted a 12-5 record with a 2.12 ERA, playing for the Athletics and the Dodgers.
