Royals’ Pitcher Cole Ragans to Rest Due to Shoulder Injury

ARLINGTON, Texas – Kansas City Royals left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans will be out for four weeks due to a mild rotator cuff strain.

“No surgery. No injections. Just rest,” manager Matt Quatraro declared on Wednesday.

Ragans, 27, who was an All-Star for Kansas City last season, was recently re-evaluated after being placed on the 15-day injured list last Wednesday. This occurred six days after his return from a left groin injury, where he allowed five runs in just three innings against St. Louis. So far this season, Ragans has a 2-3 record with an ERA of 5.18 in 10 starts. It was acquired in a trade with Texas in June 2023 and had an 11-9 record last season, with an ERA of 3.14, ranking fifth in Major League Baseball with 223 strikeouts.
