Rich Hill, at 45 years old, returns to MLB with the Royals
The Kansas City Royals plan to call up 45-year-old pitcher Rich Hill from the minor leagues to start Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs. This will be Hill’s 21st season in the Major Leagues.
Hill has been playing in Triple-A Omaha after joining the Royals as part of a trade during the offseason. In nine starts in Omaha, he has a 4-4 record with a 5.36 ERA.
Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro confirmed the team’s plans after Monday night’s 12-4 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Hill played in four games last season for Boston. If he starts on Tuesday, he will become the oldest active player in baseball.
Hill made 11 postseason starts during his four years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, including two World Series starts in 2017 and another in 2018. In the last regular season, he had an 11-5 record.
In his MLB career, Hill has a 90-74 record with a 4.01 ERA in 368 games. He has pitched 1,409 innings and has struck out 1,428 batters.
