David Ross Expresses Interest in Managing the Braves

David Ross, former catcher for the Atlanta Braves and former manager of the Chicago Cubs, has expressed his interest in returning to manage a baseball team. In an interview with The Associated Press, Ross stated that it would be “incredible” to return to the dugout with the Braves. Ross, who managed the Cubs for four seasons (2020-2023), with a record of 262-284, avoided delving into his aspirations without knowing if he will be considered as a candidate to replace Brian Snitker.

“Obviously, Atlanta would be incredible, but there’s not much to elaborate on,” Ross said, adding that he is aware of having been mentioned in speculative lists. “I don’t want to talk about something that is not yet founded. I hope my name comes up, but we’ll wait and see.”

Brian Snitker, who announced his departure after ten seasons as Braves manager, will be replaced on the team. Snitker achieved 811 victories, six National League East Division titles, a wild card appearance, and the 2021 World Series championship. David Ross, a native of Bainbridge, Georgia, played for the Braves between 2009 and 2012. During his playing career, he had a batting average of .229. In 2009, he batted .273 with seven home runs, and .289 in the following season. Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos did not reveal specific candidates during the press conference where Snitker’s decision was announced. Among the possible candidates, Mark DeRosa, former Braves player, Ryan Flaherty, Cubs bench coach, and Skip Schumaker, former Marlins manager, are mentioned.
