DENVER – The Colorado Rockies staged an epic comeback, overcoming a nine-run deficit in the first inning to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates with a final score of 17-16. The game, played on Friday night, culminated in a walk-off two-run home run hit by Brenton Doyle in the ninth inning, sealing a five-run comeback. This achievement places the Rockies in MLB history as the sixth team to win after conceding nine runs in the first inning. The last time this happened was in 2006, with the Cleveland. Also, the Rockies are the first team to win despite allowing 15 or more runs since the Boston Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers in August 2008. Colorado, which was down 16-12, began its comeback against Dennis Santana. Hunter Goodman hit his 20th home run with one out. Jordan Beck received a walk and scored thanks to Warming Bernabel’s first triple. A single by Thairo Estrada drove in a run and Doyle hit his eighth home run of the season to secure the victory.
