Mike Rizzo invites fans to a round at sports bars before the Home Run Derby

Former Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo plans to invite fans to a round at two Washington sports bars before next week’s Home Run Derby. Rizzo, who was recently fired, expressed his gratitude to the fans through social media.

In his post, Rizzo extended a “thank you” to the followers, including the offer of a “Round for Riz” for a few hours before Monday’s Home Run Derby in Atlanta. Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez were fired on Sunday, as the last-place Nationals head into their sixth consecutive losing season since winning their first World Series in 2019. These changes occurred when the Nationals had the first pick in this weekend’s amateur draft. Mike DeBartolo was named interim general manager. Rizzo had been general manager since 2009 and added the title of president of baseball operations four years later.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every fan who has supported my goal of bringing this franchise to greatness with integrity, honesty, and professionalism. D.C. has become our home in every sense of the word and I couldn’t imagine a better place to have done it all together than the nation’s capital.
