Cincinnati Reds Place Graham Ashcraft on Injured List
The Cincinnati Reds announced this Tuesday the inclusion of right-handed reliever Graham Ashcraft on the 15-day injured list due to a right groin strain.
Ashcraft’s designation is retroactive to June 16. The pitcher has established himself as one of the team’s most reliable relievers.
So far this season, Ashcraft has a 5-4 record with an ERA of 4.19 in 19 appearances. He has accumulated 38 strikeouts in 34⅔ innings during 29 games.
In his most recent outing, during the 8-4 victory against Detroit on Sunday, Ashcraft allowed three hits and two earned runs in one inning.
To cover Ashcraft’s absence in the bullpen, the Reds called up rookie Luis Mey from Triple-A Louisville. Mey has appeared in 14 games, with a 1-0 record and a 4.15 ERA, totaling 14 strikeouts in 13 innings.
Cincinnati has achieved seven victories in its last 10 games, getting within 2½ games of the National League’s third wild card spot.
