Red Sox’s Bregman Leaves Game with Injury: Concern in Boston

1 Min Read

BOSTON – Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman was removed in the fifth inning of Friday’s doubleheader opener against the Baltimore Orioles after what appeared to be a lower-body injury.

Bregman connected a strong single to left field and made a wide turn before returning to first base. The two-time All-Star gestured towards the Red Sox dugout, with manager Alex Cora running to check on the condition of the team’s star hitter. Bregman didn’t bother to check the severity of the injury before going down the stairs to be examined.

Two-time World Series winner, who spent the first nine seasons of his career in the Major Leagues with the Houston Astros, Bregman signed with Boston in February. Entering Friday, he had a batting average of .297 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs.

Abraham Toro entered as a pinch runner for Bregman and remained in the game as Boston’s first baseman. Nick Sogard started Friday’s game at first base but moved to third base.
