Roman Anthony and the Red Sox: Million-Dollar Extension on the Mind
Young outfielder Roman Anthony and the Boston Red Sox are on the verge of finalizing an eight-year, $130 million contract extension. Sources close to the negotiation confirmed the news, which is still subject to the passing of a physical examination.
This agreement, which would include a club option, would secure Anthony’s presence on the team until the year 2034. The contract would come into effect in 2026 and would include significant increase clauses that could raise the total value to 230 million dollars.
The extension could cover between three and four years of free agency, depending on the position Anthony reaches in the voting for the American League Rookie of the Year.
At 21 years old, Anthony debuted in MLB on June 9th and currently has a batting average of .283, with two home runs and 19 RBIs this season.
In May, Anthony was ranked as the number one baseball prospect.
The player, selected in the second round of the draft, has performed outstandingly in Triple-A with Worcester this season, with a batting average of .288, 10 home runs, and 29 RBIs in 58 games, including a 497-foot grand slam that went viral.
