Red Sox Halt Kutter Crawford’s Rehab Due to Wrist Injury

SAN FRANCISCO – The Boston Red Sox have stopped pitcher Kutter Crawford’s rehabilitation due to a wrist injury, according to manager Alex Cora. Crawford, 29, has not participated in any games this season due to knee and wrist problems. On Friday, he completed his second bullpen session of the week in the hope of advancing to a rehabilitation assignment, but suffered a setback in his wrist. The right-handed pitcher will travel to Boston in the coming days to undergo more tests.

He couldn’t generate velocity. That’s concerning.

Crawford made a total of 33 starts last season, the most in the league, accumulating 183⅔ innings, but a persistent knee problem prevented him from starting the season in top form. This was followed by wrist pain, which led to his inactivity.

We will know more next week.

Meanwhile, newly acquired pitcher Jordan Hicks (toe) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, while third baseman Alex Bregman (quadriceps) is also progressing.

Saturday was a great day for him.

Cora indicated that Bregman tends to say he’s further along than might be true, so the team will consult with the doctors and also listen to the player about when he’s ready to return.

We always compare him to Dustin Pedroia. If Dustin said 80 percent, I’d say it was 65 percent. But he [Bregman] feels better. He’s excited about everything that’s happening here. He’s eager to return.
