Connelly Early to Debut with the Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have called up promising pitcher Connelly Early for his Major League debut against the Athletics. Simultaneously, they have placed Dustin May on the injured list.

Early, a 23-year-old left-handed pitcher selected in the fifth round of the 2023 draft, ranks seventh in Boston’s prospect rankings.

This season, Early has proven his worth in Triple-A Worcester, with a 3-1 record, a 3.32 ERA, and 36 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings. Previously, in Double-A Portland, he recorded an impressive 7-2 with a 2.51 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 71 2/3 innings.

May, who joined the Red Sox at the end of July, has been placed on the injured list, retroactive to Sunday, due to neuritis in his right elbow. In his five starts and one relief appearance with Boston, May had a 1-4 record, with an ERA of 5.40 and 26 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings.

Additionally, the Red Sox have called up infielder Vaughn Grissom from Triple-A Worcester and placed him on the 60-day injured list due to plantar fasciitis.
