Nathan Eovaldi Undergoes Surgery, Eyes 2026 Season Start

Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi has undergone surgery for a sports hernia and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2026 season. This was confirmed by a source.

Eovaldi, who had an 11-3 record with a 1.73 ERA in 22 starts for the Rangers, underwent the procedure in Phoenix. He is expected to be recovered in four weeks, according to the source. He was sidelined in late August due to a rotator cuff strain, but last week’s exams showed that the injury was healing.

The 35-year-old pitcher was one of the best pitchers in baseball all season, and was part of the Rangers’ 3.47 ERA, the best in MLB as a team. Although he was not included in the American League All-Star team after missing most of June due to elbow inflammation, Texas awarded him an All-Star bonus of $100,000, included in his contract.

This was Eovaldi’s third consecutive season with at least 11 wins since joining the Rangers. He signed a $75 million three-year contract in December, which extends through 2027.

Eovaldi has a career record of 102-84 and an ERA of 3.84 in 14 seasons in the Major Leagues with six teams, and has won World Series championships with Boston in 2018 and Texas in 2023. He made his MLB debut with the Dodgers (2011-12) and then pitched for the Marlins (2012-14), the Yankees (2015-16), the Rays (2018), and the Red Sox (2018-22).
