Jeremy Peña begins rehab in Triple-A

Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña will begin his rehab assignment in Triple-A Sugar Land this Tuesday night. Peña has been out of action since suffering a small rib fracture, the result of being hit by a pitch on June 27 against the Chicago Cubs. The 27-year-old player faced live pitches at Houston’s spring training complex in Florida this weekend and worked out with the Astros at Daikin Park on Monday, prior to the game against the Washington Nationals. It’s still unclear how many games he’ll need in the minors before his return. However, the start of his rehab assignment is good news for a team affected by injuries. In the 82 games played this season, Peña has batted .322 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs. In addition, he has 18 doubles and 15 stolen bases.
