Isaac Paredes Opts for Rehabilitation to Return this Season

Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes has decided to avoid surgery that would end his season due to a strain in his right hamstring. Instead, he will focus on rehabilitation with the hope of returning to play in the remainder of the season, according to general manager Dana Brown, who spoke to the media on Monday.

Paredes, 26, who currently has a batting average of .259 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs, was placed on the injured list on July 20 after suffering the injury while running to first base.

The player received a platelet-rich plasma injection. If Paredes underwent surgery, his return to activity would take at least six months.

The Astros were proactive during the trade deadline, acquiring infielder Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins. Correa, who was Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-Star in his previous stint with the Astros, has agreed to move from shortstop to third base while Paredes is out of play.

The Astros have not specified an estimated return date for Paredes from the injured list.
