Isaac Paredes Withdraws from All-Star Game for Family Reasons

Houston Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes will not participate in next week’s All-Star Game due to an urgent family matter. Paredes was added to the roster on Wednesday after Cleveland’s José Ramírez decided not to participate to rest a lingering Achilles tendon injury. On Sunday, Paredes was in the lineup as the designated hitter in the last game of the series against the Texas Rangers. Manager Joe Espada assured that the player will not lose playing time after the break.

“Yes, he will return,” Espada said. “He just needs to go and spend time to take care of family matters, but… it’s okay.”

This is the second consecutive season that Paredes has been selected for the All-Star Game. The 26-year-old player is in his first season with the Astros, after being acquired in a trade from the Cubs. Before Sunday’s game, he was batting .254, with 19 home runs and 49 RBIs.
