Jacob Misiorowski: The Brewers’ Young Star at the All-Star Game

Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski has generated a lot of buzz by being included in the National League roster for the All-Star Game. Despite the criticism, Misiorowski claims not to be offended by the controversy that his selection has generated. Misiorowski, who has participated in only five games, a low record for an All-Star, was surprised by his call-up. “The last five weeks have been incredible,” he commented, adding that he was expecting the All-Star break to reflect, but now he is in Atlanta for the game. The 23-year-old stunned the baseball world with a 100.5 mph fastball in his Major League debut. In that same game, on June 12 against St. Louis, he pitched five hitless innings before leaving due to cramps, in the Brewers’ 6-0 victory. With an impressive 4-1 record, a 2.81 ERA, and 33 strikeouts in 25⅔ innings, Misiorowski has proven his worth. However, some players feel he hasn’t had enough time in the game to deserve selection over other, more experienced players.

“It’s not his fault he’s only pitched five games and got named.”

Kyle Schwarber, All-Star
Phillies player Trea Turner criticized the decision to include Misiorowski, while teammate Kyle Schwarber clarified that the Phillies players’ attempt to defend Cristopher Sánchez and Ranger Suárez “was not an attack against Misiorowski.” Schwarber also added that Misiorowski could be an All-Star “every year he pitches.” The National League team manager, Dave Roberts, justified the inclusion of Misiorowski, arguing that “if he brings excitement and attention to our game, I’m in favor.” Roberts plans to use Misiorowski in the game starting in the fifth inning. Clayton Kershaw, who is in his eleventh All-Star, commented that “he doesn’t think there’s conflict” in the opinions about Misiorowski, and that “everyone wants the best players here”. San Francisco Giants pitcher Robbie Ray praised Misiorowski, describing him as “a special talent”. Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker, who is part of Roberts’ coaching staff, noted that there is room for a player with little experience like Misiorowski in the exhibition game.
