PITTSBURGH – Andrew McCutchen hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to victory over the Miami Marlins with a score of 5-2 this Wednesday.

McCutchen’s hit, which went to left-center field against pitcher Cal Quantrill, represented his sixth home run of the season and the number 241 in his 12 seasons with the Pirates. With this achievement, McCutchen surpassed Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, moving up to third place on the franchise’s all-time home run list.

Willie Stargell (475) and Ralph Kiner (301) remain ahead of McCutchen in the historical table. Barry Bonds is in fifth place with 176.

This was the 325th home run of McCutchen’s career, putting Pittsburgh ahead 4-0 on the scoreboard. Throughout his 17-year MLB career, McCutchen has also played for the Milwaukee Brewers, the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Yankees, and the San Francisco Giants.

In 2015, McCutchen received the Roberto Clemente Award, an annual recognition given to the player who best represents baseball through his extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field. McCutchen became the second Pirates player to obtain this prestigious award, after Stargell in 1974.
