Marlins Acquire Esteury Ruiz from the Dodgers

The Miami Marlins have bolstered their roster by acquiring outfielder Esteury Ruiz from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The trade, announced Monday night, involves minor league pitcher Adriano Marrero, who joins the Dodgers. Ruiz, known for his speed, led the American League in 2023 with 67 stolen bases playing for the Athletics. Throughout his four seasons in the Major Leagues, he has proven to be a valuable player both in defense and in stealing bases. His career batting average is .241, having played for four different teams. The Dodgers had acquired Ruiz from the A’s last April, but his participation on the team was limited, mainly as a defensive substitute or pinch runner. In the 19 games he played with the Los Angeles team, his batting average was .190. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Marlins designated infielder Eric Wagaman for assignment. This move also freed up a spot on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. With this acquisition, Ruiz could be the replacement for Dane Myers, who was transferred to Cincinnati last weekend.
