Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel has a right hamstring strain and is expected to be out for four to six weeks, according to general manager Chris Getz, who informed the media on Wednesday.

Teel, 24, was injured while trying to reach second base with a double for Italy during their surprising 8-6 victory over the United States in the World Baseball Classic on Tuesday. He left the field on his own with the assistance of the athletic trainers.

Acquired from Boston in the trade for Garrett Crochet during the 2024 offseason, Teel participated in 78 games for the White Sox last season. He batted .273 with eight home runs, 11 doubles, and 35 RBIs, with 37 walks in 297 plate appearances.

Edgar Quero, who played in 111 games for Chicago last season, is expected to assume the bulk of the innings at catcher while Teel is out. Quero batted .268 with five home runs, 17 doubles, and 36 RBIs in 403 plate appearances last season.
