Kona Takahashi: Japanese Pitcher Misses MLB Opportunity After Deadline Passes

NEW YORK – Japanese pitcher Kona Takahashi did not reach an agreement with a Major League team before his negotiation period expired on Sunday, and his rights remain with the Saitama Seibu Lions of the Pacific League.

The right-hander, who will turn 29 on February 3rd, had an 8-9 record with a 3.04 ERA last year with the Lions, striking out 88 and walking 41 in 148 innings. In 2024, his record was 0-11 with a 3.87 ERA, after compiling a 22-16 record in the previous two seasons.

Takahashi has a 73-77 record with a 3.39 ERA in 11 seasons with the Lions.
